ASSIGNMENT AIMS
The fundamental starting point for any type of career exploration and planning is self-assessment.
Whether you are considering your career direction, choosing options or preparing to compete for
work, your success will depend in part on your self-assessment capabilities. In this assignment, you
will:
1. Demonstrate the ability to use a variety of self-assessment methods, including career
development theories, to reflect on your career development
2. Demonstrate the capacity to apply future work literature to practical career development practices,
such as assessing, planning and describing skills.
RELATED LEARNING OUTCOME
1. Exhibit an understanding of career theory, planning and management.
2. Exhibit a capacity to apply skills that reflects an understanding of current discipline-related skills,
employability skills, labour-market trends and employment opportunities.
WHAT YOU NEED TO PRODUCE Produce a 500 word fully referenced reflection on your career story. You will use career theory and My Career Pulse results to explore what matters most to you in your career. You will also consider becoming part of one of the Drivers of Change in your future career. 1. My Career Story (500 words) 2. THE DETAILS
This short assignment will focus on two aspects of the content you have covered so far:
• Career Development DOTS model and Career Theories
• Future Work Skills 2020
Part 1 My Career Story [500 words] Use 2 of the career theories covered in this unit and your results from the My Career Pulse tool to write your current career story. 1. Your story should connect what you have done in the past to what you are doing now as well as your current vision for your future career. 2. Use the career theories to help explain how your interests, strengths and values might have developed in your life. You may reference any career tests, quizzes or exercises you have completed provided you include screenshots of results as an appendix. 3. As part of your reflection on your future career, briefly discuss ONE of the six drivers for change (Fidler, et al., 2011) that interests you and you see yourself becoming part of in the future. Explain your reasoning. 4. Finally, briefly outline your plans for improving 1 – 2 of your My Career Pulse results (include a screen shot of the results). Notes: 1. Only include personal information that is relevant to your career story. 2. Must use at least 5 references. IN-TEXT REFERENCING IS ESSENTIAL. Refer to rubric below (pp 4- 6) for more guidance. |

EXTENSIONS
• Extensions for the assignment may be granted in exceptional circumstances.
• Requests for extensions must be directed to the convenor by email.
• All extension requests submitted to the convenor must be submitted before the assignment
due date.
• For all extension requests:
o The request must be accompanied by appropriate documentation (i.e. a medical
certificate for illness, a counsellor’s/psychologist’s letter for psychological issues or
personal circumstances)
o The documentation must indicate the length of time for which the student was
impacted by the illness/circumstance, so that university staff can determine the length
of extension warranted
o Remember that pressure of other work (whether university work or paid work) does
not count as a basis for an extension.
Late Submissions
• Unless an extension has been approved, late submissions will result in a penalty.
• You will be penalised 10% of the assessment’s worth for each calendar day the task is late,
up to a maximum of 5 calendar days.
• After 5 calendar days a zero result will be recorded.
• Late penalties begin to accrue as soon as the due date has passed.
NOTE: It is your responsibility to ensure you have correctly uploaded your
assignment. Files emailed after the deadline will accrue late penalties even if
you attempted to upload. Thus, please check your file was uploaded
successfully.
