This assignment is designed to assess learning outcomes:
1. Analyse how a range of key historical models, theories and frameworks such as ‘Trickle Down Theory’
in!uence and can be applied to contemporary fashion practice.
2. Develop personalized academic research interests, identify personal learning objectives and demonstrate a
critical understanding of the importance of independence in learning and the need for a ‘growth’ mindset.
3. Contextualize and apply the practical use of research material and visual fashion culture in a fashion industry
context.
4. Develop a relevant range of research and communication skills for accessing, manipulating and presenting
fashion data e.g. texts, images, and objects.
5. Discuss and re!ect upon the usage of material and visual fashion culture and historic sources and the impact
these have on decision making.

Details of the taskThis project will be based on visiting the online Fashion Collection at the V&A Museum in South
Kensington, which will act as a starting point for your research and will lead to developing your
individual report.

At the V&A Museum's Fashion Collection that is accessible through the V&A's online database, viewable
at: http://collections.vam.ac.uk/search/?q=Fashion, select and choose carefully one full out"t on display. In your
choice, consider how this out"t (or perhaps parts of this out"t) has relevance to contemporary fashion and
fashionable lifestyles. Ensure that you document this out"t in full and obtain all the necessary data (e.g. What is
the out"t? Who made it? What year or era was it worn in? What are the fabrics and trimmings? Is it daywear or
evening wear? What accessories and shoes go with the out"t. From these basic notes and observational study,
write and compile a report in 4 parts to include the following:
Part 1 Introduction Part 1 Introduction (250 words)
This section of the report must be a short introduction outlining the background and focus of your research e.g.
time period and/or historic fashion movement, provide a reason as to why this out"t is particularly appealing or
relevant to current society
Part 2 Historical Fashion and Object Analysis Part 2 Historical Fashion and Object Analysis (750 words)
This part of the report should consist of an observational analysis of your out"t and its history. You should begin
by completing further detailed research on this out"t - What else can you learn about this out"t? To develop this

current fashion and trends for Autumn/Winter 2020 or Spring/Summer 2021. You should make use of relevant
trend reports (e.g. WGSN, Drapers, Vogue etc.) together with other relevant resources including books, journal
articles, newspapers and magazines, photography and "lm to support and help evidence your "ndings. In this
section answer the following:
What resonance or relationship can you "nd with your chosen out"t and current fashion trends?

research and analysis, and make recommendations of how this can be adapted to contemporary fashion.

You have been asked to produce a report. It should contain the following:
Appropriate coversheet (as attached in this document)
Title Page, including the given title in full.
Contents Page
Introduction
Main body, which should also be organised under appropriate headings.
Conclusion
Appendices, which should be numbered.
Make sure you refer your reader to them as required.
